The Praha-Vršovice – Praha-Radotín railway is a single-track electrified main line at the Prague railway junction that only serves freight . As part of a freight train bypass in the south and east of Prague, it connects the Prague-Vršovice marshalling yard directly with the Prague-Plzeň railway line .

history

The first project to connect the Prague – Plzeň railway with the newly built Vršovice marshalling yard was drawn up shortly after the First World War . At that time, the foundations were laid for the reconstruction of the Prague railway system, which has not yet been completed. Part of that concept was also the construction of a high-performance freight train bypass, which was supposed to directly connect all railway lines approaching Prague with the marshalling yard in Vršovice. Until 1941, only the connection from Libeň to Vršovice and the central local freight station in Žižkov were built .

The construction of the section from Vršovice to Radotín did not begin until after the Second World War . The bridge over the Vltava ( Branický most ) was built between 1950 and 1955. At the time it was built, it was one of the world's longest prestressed concrete bridges .

The line from Praha-Vršovice to Praha-Krč was opened on May 28, 1960. The further section across the Vltava to Praha-Radotín went into operation on May 30, 1964. It has been electrified with 3 kV direct current since 1973.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

A continuous double-track expansion of the line is planned from 2024.
