Connection railway to Praha-Vyšehrad

The railway line Praha-Libeň-Praha-Vršovice is an electrified main line ("celostátní dráha") in the Czech Republic . It connects the lines Česká Třebová – Praha and České Velenice – Praha in the Prague node and functioned in particular as a direct connection from the north and east to the (now closed) marshalling yard Praha-Vršovice. It begins at the Praha-Libeň train station and runs east from Prague via the Malešice district to Praha-Vršovice .

history

The line was opened on June 18, 1919 at the same time as the Praha-Vršovice marshalling yard. From the outset, it was only intended for freight traffic and was therefore not equipped with any facilities for travel.

On March 1, 1936, the short branch line from Malešice to the newly built local freight station in Praha-Žižkov went into operation. The traffic-relevant connecting curves from Praha-Běchovice and from Praha-Hostivař to Malešice were opened on September 1, 1939 and September 27, 1941, respectively.

As the last longer connection at the Prague hub, the line was electrified in 1951 with 1500 volts direct current. On May 15, 1962, the voltage was increased to the (still common) 3000 volts.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

Since December 11, 2011, passenger trains have also been using the route as planned. The passenger trains on line S41 (Městská linka) from Roztoky u Prahy to Praha-Libeň have been tied every hour on Saturdays and Sundays to Praha-Hostivař.

The route operator SŽDC is planning a continuous double-track expansion from Praha-Libeň via Praha-Malešice to Praha-Hostivař. Since the Malešicky tunnel does not have a sufficient clearance profile for double-track operation, a new parallel tunnel tube is to be built there for the second track. In addition, the renovation of the Praha-Malešice station is planned. The aim of the measures is to increase the freight transport capacity in the approach to the Metrans terminal in Praha-Uhříněves. There is also a continuous half-hourly service on the Esko line S41.

In 2016, traffic ended on the branching line to the Praha-Žižkov freight yard, which was recently only used as a container transshipment point. The branch point on the line that was still operational was removed in November 2019.
