Alison Van Uytvanck (born March  26, 1994 in Vilvoorde ) is a Belgian tennis player .

Career

Van Uytvanck, who started playing tennis at the age of five, gained her first experience on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour in 2010 . In 2011 she won her first three professional titles there and made her debut in the same year at the WTA tournament in Brussels with a wildcard in qualification. After two victories, she made the jump into the main field, where she immediately reached the second round after a win over Patty Schnyder , in which she was defeated by her compatriot Yanina Wickmayer .

In late 2012, Van Uytvanck won her first ITF title in a $ 25,000 tournament in Équeurdreville, followed by another in Andrézieux-Bouthéon in early 2013 . At Wimbledon , she competed for the first time in the qualification of a Grand Slam tournament and failed in the second round. After another ITF title in Shrewsbury , she achieved her first major tournament victory at the end of the season at a tournament of the WTA Challenger Series in Taipei .

In 2014 Van Uytvanck made her debut in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne , but lost there against Virginie Razzano at the beginning . In Florianópolis , she then made it to the quarter-finals of a WTA tournament for the first time, before she celebrated her first success in the main round of a Grand Slam tournament against Monica Niculescu in London . By moving into her first WTA semi-final in Hong Kong , she ended the season in the top 100 of the tennis world rankings for the first time .

The following year, Van Uytvanck surprisingly reached the quarter-finals after reaching the semi-finals in Katowice at the French Open and thus her best result to date in a Grand Slam tournament. In the round of the last eight she then had to admit defeat to Timea Bacsinszky . By the end of the year she was twice in a WTA semi-finals in Seoul and Luxembourg and was able to finish the season in the top 50 in the world for the first time. In 2016, Van Uytvanck had to have a tumor removed on his right ankle and was then unable to play for the entire clay court season. Since she could not defend the points from the previous year, she fell far behind in the world rankings. Despite two titles in $ 50,000 tournaments on the ITF Tour in Stockton and Las Vegas , she finished the year outside of the top 100.

At the beginning of 2017 Van Uytvanck had to take another break due to an injury and only made her season debut in Indian Wells in March . After a mixed season she was able to win her first tournament victory on the WTA tour in Québec after a final victory over Tímea Babos and return to the top 100 of the world rankings by another final in Poitiers . In February 2018, her second triumph at the WTA tournament in Budapest followed after a final victory over Dominika Cibulková . Her best Grand Slam result was at Wimbledon , where, after a second round win over Garbiñe Muguruza , her first win against a top 10 player, she advanced to the round of 16, in which she had to admit defeat to Darja Kassatkina . She then achieved her best world ranking position to date with 37th place, which was followed by a series of seven defeats in a row, which only came to an end with the semi-finals in Linz . In Luxembourg , she was able to celebrate her first WTA title in doubles at the side of her partner Greet Minnen .

Since 2019 Van Uytvanck has been drawing attention to himself mainly with good results at smaller WTA tournaments. So she initially successfully defended her title in Budapest against Markéta Vondroušová . She was also in the final of the WTA Challenger in Karlsruhe and won her fourth WTA tournament in Tashkent in September , after defeating Sorana Cîrstea in three sets in the final . In 2020, she reached the semi-finals in Lyon before the corona-related end of the season .

In 2012 Van Uytvanck made his debut in the quarter-final duel against Serbia for the Belgian Fed Cup team . Since then, she has contested 27 singles and doubles matches for her country, of which she was able to win 15 (individual balance 12: 7).
