Despite the mechanization of agriculture and the resulting loss of jobs, the population of the municipality remained essentially constant in the second half of the 20th century. The village of Audéjos , which was incorporated in 1972 and has around 100 residents, also belongs to the municipality .

economy

  • The underground below Lacq contains sulfur in the form of gaseous hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S), from which crystalline sulfur is produced by oxidation, which can then be transported and processed.
  • France's largest natural gas field is located near Lacq .
  • The first French demonstration plant was built in Lacq, in which the entire chain of the oxyfuel process , from oxygen production to the storage of carbon dioxide in a former natural gas deposit , is tested on an industrial scale. In the period from 2009 to 2013, a total of more than 51,000 tons of carbon dioxide were separated, piped into an exhausted natural gas field 30 km away and stored there. Possible effects on the environment were observed until 2016. The purpose of the project was to demonstrate the technical feasibility, to gather experience and data to apply the technology using a larger volume industrial process, and to develop methodologies for geological surveying and monitoring of sites.

history

In the municipal area several prehistoric were barrows (tumuli) detected. Later finds near today's church suggest a settlement in Gallo-Roman times . There was a ferry here in the late Middle Ages. Today's municipality emerged from the merger of the former municipalities Lacq and Audéjos , which belonged to two different cantons. The affiliation to the cantons of that time still exists today.

Attractions

The churches of Lacq and Audéjos date from the early 20th century.

Parish partnership

Lacq has a partnership with the Spanish municipality of San Quintín de Mediona in Catalonia.
