The village developed in the 14th century using monks of the Abbey of Larreule on a hill overlooking the Luy de Bearn. Henri de Montesquiou, landlord of Sadirac and Pomps, had a castle built in the middle of the 16th century. In 1580 he sold the manor to the Saint-Cricq family. A descendant of this family married Antoine de Faget from Doat at the end of the 17th century. In 1731 Pomps was made a baronate . As a result of the French Revolution , the manor was dissolved and their property was confiscated.

Parish Church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur

The church, consecrated to James the Elder , was built at the beginning of the 19th century just outside the center of the parish near the castle. The Apostle James to the Spanish Santiago de Compostela have his tomb, the goal of running past with pomp Camino de Santiago . The church is equipped with a bell tower that is attached to the side of the church building and is covered with a tent roof with two eaves . The nave has a main aisle and a side aisle, which was added in 1871. Various items of equipment are registered as national cultural assets. These include a padiglione made of white fabric and a set of nine stained glass windows dating from 1920 and 1921, by the glass painters Louis and Henri Gesta from Toulouse .

The nine stained glass windows depict the following saints or motifs: Paul of Tarsus , Sacred Heart of Jesus , Immaculate Heart of Mary , Simon Peter , Aloisius of Gonzaga , John the Baptist , Stephen , Louis IX. of France and Archangel Michael . Two glass windows give evidence of fallen soldiers of the First World War . Saint Paul can be recognized by his attributes , his long beard, the sword in his left hand with which he was beheaded, and a parchment scroll in his right hand as a symbol for his letters. Saint Peter carries the two keys to paradise. Aloisius von Gonzaga wears a white, lace-trimmed choir shirt . He is leaning on a skull with his right hand, and his left hand is holding an iris . His face is probably that of the infantry soldier Jean Louis Pétrou, who was reported missing on February 18, 1915 at Perthes-lès-Hurlus, today Souain-Perthes-lès-Hurlus , in the Marne department , at the age of 22 . John the Baptist is in a desert-like landscape. He wears an animal skin and leans on a cross, symbol of the announcement of Christ. Saint Stephen wears a red dalmatic , the clothes of a deacon . He holds a stone from his stoning in his right hand and the martyr's palm in his left . King Louis IX, also called Louis the Saint, wears a cloak studded with irises and his crown on his head. He holds the crown of thorns that Christ wore during his Passion as a symbol of the two crusades led by the French king. This window bears the inscription: “In memory of Louis Soubagné”. Louis Soubagnet was an infantry soldier and was reported missing at the age of 22 on September 21, 1914 at the Battle of Oulches, now Oulches-la-Vallée-Foulon , in the Aisne department . The Archangel Michael, depicted as a Roman soldier, struck down the devil in this scene.

The main altar in the choir of the church is carefully decorated with gold plating. It is equipped with an altarpiece made of white marble . The tabernacle that stands on it is crowned with a Latin cross and surrounded by several candlesticks. The church also has two side altars, one dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and another dedicated to Mary . Like the main altar, both are made of white marble and both have a statue .

Castle of Pomps

Henry de Montesquiou signed a contract with a cagot from Morlanne in 1547 that he would build him a house. From this simple construction, the hexagonal Tourelle with internal staircase has outlasted the course of the centuries. At its foot there are traces of an arched entrance that has been walled up in the meantime. Three windows with roofs let light into the stairwell of the Tourelle. The rectangular main building is covered with a high roof made of red flat tiles. At the foot of the retaining wall is a stone fountain from 1722. The residential wing was rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries. Opposite the main building, large outbuildings close off the inner courtyard. Today the castle can be reached via a long avenue of plane trees. It has belonged to the Frouté family for five generations.
