Castillon lies in the catchment area of the River Adour . A tributary of the Luy de Béarn , the Aubin , flows through the municipality together with its tributary, the Lech.
history
The ridge on which the commune is located has strategic advantages because it allows a wide view of the Arthez plain, the Aubin valley and, on the other side, the Luy valley. Objects from different eras came to light during excavations on a circular area in the area of the municipality. Small pieces of amphorae , bowls and a fragment of a salt pot that could have come from Salies-de-Béarn are believed to have come from a simple warehouse called Tuc de Castetbielh and date from the 2nd century. The floor of the camp is interspersed with pebbles.
Toponyms and mentions of Castillon followed
- Saint-Pierre de Castello (11th century, according to Pierre de Marca's book Histoire de Béarn ) and
- Castelhoo (1352, notaries of Pardies ).
In the 1385 census , 25 households were counted and it was noted that the village belongs to the Bailliage of Pau.
Population development
After provisional highs of over 400 inhabitants in the middle of the 19th century, the number fell by around 60% during short phases of stabilization by the 1950s. After a brief increase and subsequent decrease in the 1960s and 1970s, the number of residents has now stabilized and has been rising again since then.
