Laroin is located in the catchment area of the Adour River on the left bank of its tributary, the Gave de Pau . Les Hiès , a tributary of the Gave de Pau, flows together with its tributary, the Ruisseau l'Arribeu, through the territory of the municipality.
history
The remains of an oval Gallo-Roman military camp bear witness to an early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages , Laroin was connected to the villages of Saint-Faust and Monhauba, an area that Arius-Raca, Bishop of Bazas, gave to the diocese of Lescar in the 11th century. In the same century Laroin was mentioned in Pierre de Marca's book Histoire de Béarn on page 246. The strategic location of the former camp was converted into a fortress by the Bishop of Lescar in the 12th century, who built a castle called “La Motte” on it. In the census of the Béarn in 1385, 80 households were counted in Laroin, now part of Saint-Faust, and the fact that the village was part of the Bailliage of Pau was recorded. Monhauba was a neighborhood on the banks of the Gave that was carried away in the great floods of the river in the 16th and 17th centuries, the last remains probably from the great flood of 1774. In the same year, Laroin became of Saint-Faust by royal decree independently.
Toponyms and mentions of Laroin were:
- Laroenh (1243, copy book of the archdeaconate of Ossau),
- Laroeinh (1540, manuscript collection from the 16th to 18th centuries),
- lo cami de la nau de Laroinh (1645, census of Lescar, also reference to a ferry between Lescar and Laroin),
- Laroing (1750, map by Cassini ) and
- Laroin (1793 and 1801, Notice Communale and Bulletin des lois, respectively ).
Population development
After an initial peak of over 600 inhabitants in the first half of the 19th century, the number of inhabitants fell to around 350 by the 1940s, before strong growth set in, which continues to this day and allowed the population to rise to over 1,000.

Attractions
- Parish Church of Laroin. It is consecrated to two saints , originally Vincent of Valencia , a martyr of Hispania in the 4th century and, after the construction of the new church, at the request of the parishioners, also Vincent de Paul , founder of modern charity . The former church was demolished between 1902 and 1903 and rebuilt between 1903 and 1905 according to plans by the architect Jules Noutary from Pau. The bell tower above the entrance porch is similar to that of the Lys Church , which Jules Noutary also worked on. The parish church has a plan in the shape of a Latin cross . The single nave nave with a length of five bays is covered with a ribbed vault and is flanked by two side chapels . A special feature of the church is the holy water font , which is a reuse of the capital of a Corinthian column from the Gallo-Roman period . The marble from which it was created probably comes from the Ossau valley. The column could have been in the thermal baths of Jurançon or Saint-Faust de Bas.
Economy and Infrastructure
Trade and services determine the municipality's economy due to its proximity to Pau. The "Domaine de Souch" has been growing organic wine from the AOC Jurançon on an area of seven hectares for 20 years .
Laroin is located in the AOC zones of the Jurançon and Béarn wine-growing regions as well as Ossau-Iraty , a traditionally made semi-hard cheese made from sheep's milk.
education
The community has a public preschool and elementary school.
