history

Some barrows in the municipal area show that there was an early settlement in the Iron Age . Numerous traces from the Gallo-Roman period have been found on the territory of the municipality. Most are from a 5th century AD villa that was built itself over a structure dating back to the 1st century AD. The villa extended over an area of 2.5 hectares, which corresponds to the current center of the municipality. Among the artifacts found are floor mosaics , at least one of which was intended for warm air heating with a hypocaust . Other finds were, for example, fragments of an amphora , a lamp made of terracotta and a bronze ornament depicting two dolphins.

A moth secured from the 10th to the 12th century, the basic rule whose territory next Taron and Viellenave also included Mascaraàs, Haron and Ribarrouy. The moth was laid out in a circle and raised about ten meters. The 1385 census of Béarn counted 14 households in Taron and 16 households in Sadirac. Both villages were in Bailliage of Lembeye . The Vicomté of Sadirac was subordinate to the Viscount of Béarn and was composed of the parishes of Maumusson, Ribarrouy, Sadirac, Taron and Vlichenave.

Between 1790 and 1794 Vlichenave joined the community of Taron and briefly became an independent community between 1795 and 1800. In 1822 the municipalities of Taron, Sadirac and Vlichenave merged to form the new municipality of Taron-Sadirac-Vlichenave.

Parish church de l'Assomption-de-la-Bienheureuse-Vierge-Marie
  • Parish church in Taron, dedicated to the Assumption . The church has been classified as a Monument historique since July 12, 2006 . It was built in the late 10th or early 11th century on the remains of the earlier ancient villa from the 5th century. This original structure essentially comprised the lower part of today's nave . The southern side chapel and the foundation of the bell tower were added in the second half of the 12th century. The church was rebuilt in the second half of the 15th century. The vaults of the nave and the two side chapels and openings in the walls for windows were built in the 15th and 16th centuries. The entrance porch was built between 1744 and 1747, and the bell tower was raised between 1759 and 1762. The bell tower is 40 meters high and is one of the highest in the region. Under the entrance porch, an 18th century gate framed by pilasters gives access to the interior of the church. The single nave nave is now extended by a three-walled apse and flanked by two side chapels. Four glass windows by an unknown artist date from the second half of the 19th century, three of them embellish the choir . Mary , Saints Peter and Paul and the biblical scene of the Visitation of Mary are represented in them. Biblical motifs were painted on the three walls of the choir in 1860 by the painter Incamps from Morlaàs , on the left the angel of the Annunciation , Peter and the dove of the Holy Spirit , in the middle God the Father and on the right Paul, Mary at the Annunciation of the Lord and Christ on Cross. The southern side chapel has a semicircular apse and a vaulted ceiling. Three narrow windows and an oculus let the light fall on an altar from the 12th century. It is made from a monolith and contains bones as relics , which are visited by the faithful to ask for miraculous powers. Suspenders from the north side chapel are carved with animal motifs, including a hare and a fox. One of the mosaics from the ancient villa, which dates back to the fifth century and was found in the cemetery in 1909, has been on display in the north chapel since 1975 for better preservation. It shows colorful braided patterns, arcades and a fish swimming through the foliage . The fragment measures 2.80 m × 2 m. A large number of other items of equipment from the 17th to 20th centuries are registered as national cultural assets.
  • Sadirac Castle, called Haus Pehau. Jacques de Casemajor, Baron von Oneix and last landlord of Sadirac, had it built below the former Motte between 1784 and 1790. At the end of the 20th century it was restored due to its poor condition. In the 18th century there were farm buildings such as a barn, a cowshed, a pigsty, a dovecote , a shed, a wine cellar and a wine press in addition to the house . The residential building has two floors and an attic and a roof that is covered with slate and flat tiles. Only an internal staircase remains from the original furnishings.
  • Noble seat of the Montpezat family. The Narp family owned the property in the 16th century. In 1578 it was sold to the Larquer family, and in the following century it went to the Du Boy family. At the end of the 18th century, the property became the property of the Monpezat family, who gave it its name. The current building dates from the beginning of the 17th century. A staircase was built in the late 17th or early 18th century. In 1821 the castle was rebuilt and expanded, as evidenced by a corresponding year on a fireplace. The current owner had it restored in 1950. The residential wing has two floors and an attic. The outer walls are made of sandstone , pebbles, rubble stones and mixed masonry associations and are partially plastered. The roofs of the main and auxiliary buildings are covered with slate, interlocking tiles or flat tiles.
