Lespourcy is a French municipality with 192 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Pau and the canton of Pays de Morlaàs et du Montanérès (until 2015: canton of Morlaàs ).
The name in the Gascognischen language is Lesporcin . The inhabitants are called Lespourciens and Lespourciennes .

Lespourcy is located about 25 km northeast of Pau in the historic province of Béarn .

Lespourcy lies in the catchment area of the Adour River . A tributary of the Lées , the same Lées , also Le Grand Lées called, flows together with its tributary, the Arriutort, through the territory of the municipality. Another tributary of the Lées, the Petit Lées , also irrigates the municipality with its tributaries Ruisseau de Capdelaut and Ruisseau de Pédebosc.
history
Barrows in the area indicate early settlement of the area. A Roman road , the Aire-sur-l'Adour with Lourdes Association, crossed the settlement. Lespourcy was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. The name of the community comes from the Latin lustra porcina (hiding place for wild boars). During the census in the Béarn in 1385 ten households were counted and it was noted that the place belonged to the Bailliage of Pau. 1649 Lespourcy became the Barony payable to Josué de Lagarde, was the de subsequently to Guillaume Capdevielle.

Population development
After a peak of around 340 inhabitants in the middle of the 19th century, the number of inhabitants, with brief recovery phases, fell to around 120 by the end of the 19th century, before the community began to grow moderately.

Attractions
- Parish church of Lespourcy, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary . A simple Romanesque church may have been built on a fortified man-made mound in the 12th century before being rebuilt and enlarged in 1825. Today's three-aisled nave is closed with a round apse . In 1858 the side aisles, two sacristies and a ribbed vault were added according to plans by the architect Durand. Despite these renovations, the church has retained its Romanesque character. Many furnishings date from the 17th to 20th centuries and are registered as national cultural assets. In the choir , the gaze falls on the magnificent reredos of the main altar , a work by Jean Tournier from 1675. It originally stood in the Dominican monastery church in Morlaàs before it was sold as a national good during the French Revolution . In the bas-relief several scenes of life are Jesus Christ represented Christ on the cross between Mary and John , the homage of the shepherds Adoration of the Magi , the Presentation of the Lord and Jesus' birth. The decoration is completed by serpent columns and foliage . Statues of saints such as Thomas Aquinas , Peter , Vincent, Agnes and Catherine of Siena and Popes Pius V and Gregory XIII. frame the whole. The carved and gilded wood pulpit dates from the mid-18th century and was originally in the former Saint-Martin church in Pau before it was donated to the church in Lespourcy by the Belloc family in the late 19th century. The four stained glass windows show Saints Karl, Felicitas, Joseph and Mary with the baby Jesus and are works by the glass painters Raymon and Sotta from the second half of the 19th century.
- Belloc Castle. It was built in the 18th century on the edge of a park as the seat of the landlord family and rebuilt in the 19th century. The complex comprises a main house and ancillary building for the accommodation of the employees, a barn as well as a chicken and pigsty, which form an inner courtyard in the north. The castle is privately owned and cannot be visited.
