The name Vielleségure appeared in 1343 as la bastide de Viel-Segure , around 1350 as Sent-Bertran de Viel-Segure , in 1391 as Bielesegure and 1572 as Bielasegura .
The origins of Vielleségure date back to a time when the Vascons protested against the Romans in a place known as "éperon barré", which was built on a hill. In 1339 a fortress built by Gaston II was abandoned and modernized and expanded by Gaston II (also called Fébus ) by order of January 26, 1372, so that it could be used in the Hundred Years War .
According to Paul Raymond , Vielleségure comprised 56 families in 1385 and was dependent on the Bailliage in Lagor and Pardies .
