history
Already in the early days people settled in the area, which is proven by the discovery of barrows . In a census in 1385, only 5 households were counted in Arien and it was noted that the village is in the Bailliage of Pau . Despite its small size, Arrien was the seat of a lay monastery in the Middle Ages . The place is known for its spring, the water of which is said to have healing properties. Many pilgrims were received for this reason, especially in the 13th century .
Population development
From the peak of the population in the middle of the 19th century, almost only a third is left in the 1970s. However, the trend has since stopped and the number is even increasing.
