history
The municipality was not included in the Béarn census in 1385 because it was part of the Vicomté of Marsan of Gascony at that time . Until the beginning of the 18th century, Géus was part of what is now the neighboring municipality of Bouillon. The families de Salles and de Laffargue possessed together the basic rule of the village.
Toponyms and mentions of Géus-d'Arzacq were:
- Gieus (1505, notaries of Garos ),
- Geus (1750, map by Cassini ),
- Gens (1793, Notice Communale) and
- Gens and Géus (1801, Bulletin des Lois).
On December 26, 1956, the municipality took the current name Géus-d'Arzacq to more clearly differentiate itself from the municipality of Geüs-d'Oloron .
In 2015, the municipality received the “Two Flowers” award in the competition for cities and towns decorated with flowers in the category of municipalities with less than 500 inhabitants.
Population development
After a peak in the number of inhabitants in the middle of the 19th century with 269 inhabitants, the number fell by a total of around 60% during short recovery phases until after the Second World War . Subsequently, the population moved to a level of around 120 inhabitants, until relatively solid growth began after the turn of the millennium.

- Parish church, dedicated to Mary , the mother of Jesus . The year 1709 on the keystone above the south portal of the church suggests that it was built at the beginning of the 18th century. This was done as a replacement for the earlier Romanesque church on the same spot, using the floor plan of the medieval building as a template for the new building. The single nave nave is extended by a choir and a sacristy . In former times it was covered with roof tiles, today it has a roof made of slate . This also applies to the tower with arched window openings that reveal the bells. The tower helmet, which is also covered with slate, is a double helmet, as a pavilion with another tent roof is placed on the top of its tent roof . The archives mention a rectory built by a certain Pierre de Laforcade between 1725 and 1730. It is believed that it is the house that adjoins the church building to the south. Inside the church, an iron crucifix is kept under glass. It has the shape of a Latin cross with the initials " INRI " for the Latin sentence Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum (also Jesus Nazarenus Rex Judaeorum ) - " Jesus of Nazareth , King of the Jews ". Christ is nailed to the cross on his hands and feet and depicted with a wound on the left side according to the passion story in the Gospels . The same motif can be found at two crossroads in the community. The four stained glass windows of the church are the work of the glass painter Arcencam from 1923. They were created in the style of the artists of the region and show the Good Shepherd , St. Leo, Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. Genoveva of Paris .
Economy and Infrastructure
Agriculture is one of the most important economic factors in the municipality.
