Hagetaubin is a French municipality with 578 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Pau and the canton of Artix et Pays de Soubestre (until 2015: canton of Arthez-de-Béarn ).
The name in the Gascognischen language is Hayetaoubïn . The inhabitants are called Hagetaubinois or Hagetaubinoises .

history
Traces of settlement in the Bronze Age were found in the form of funeral urns and jewelry, which were discovered in two handsome barrows . These were used as burial sites until the early Iron Age . Finds of Roman ceramic vessels and a rotary mill made of sandstone in the municipality come from the Gallo-Roman period . A census in 1385 counted 49 households in Hagetaubin and it was noted that the village belongs to the Bailliage of Pau. Between 1795 and 1800 the previous municipality of Masconette was incorporated into the municipality of Hagetaubin.

Population development
After a peak in the number of over 1000 inhabitants in the first half of the 19th century, the number fell by a total of around 60% with short growth phases up to the 1980s. Since then, the number of residents has increased again.

Attractions
- Parish church in Hagetaubin, dedicated to St. Sebastian . The bell tower , the nave and the apse are the oldest parts of the church dating from the Middle Ages . The north aisle was probably added later. In three waves, from 1855 to 1857, from 1865 to 1867 and from 1875 to 1895, extensive restorations took place according to plans by the architect Henri d'Arnaudat, including raising the floor and the walls of the nave and raising the walls of the chapel , walls for further windows and ox eyes were opened, the vaults were restored, painting work was carried out. In February 1897 the construction of the southern nave and a second sacristy was completed.
- Church in the Mascouette district, dedicated to the apostle Simon Peter . The Romanesque style church is surrounded by a cemetery and has a bell tower with a slate roof turret . It was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. From 1856 to 1858, extensive restorations were carried out here according to plans by the architect Henri d'Arnaudat. The nave was lengthened by 6.5 m, the aisle by 0.80 m, the chancel and the wall of the aisle were rebuilt, the walls were opened for new windows. The bell tower's helmet was repaired in 1870, in 1874 two glass windows by the glass painter Bergès from Toulouse , and in 1919 further glass windows by the glass painter Arcencam from Pau were incorporated.
- Chapel of Aurit. It was built in the 12th century in the district of Aurit von Hagetaubin on a Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela as a welcome stop for pilgrims .
- House claverie. It is in 1644 by a landowner built by Hagetaubin and later as a Protestant been established school. The oak staircase inside the house is well preserved. The visible ceiling beams are worked out in the Renaissance style.
- House Husté. It was built in 1702 in a construction atypical for the region and has in particular a large internal staircase with a wide flight of stairs .
- House Simounat, built in 1602. It is partly built with red stones created by mixing black gravel and red earth. It is the only house in the community with this type of construction, which can, however, also be found in certain neighboring communities.

La Pêcherie d'Aurit et l'arche d'Olivier
It is an institution that explains the work on a farm in an educational way. The farm grows cereals and holds all kinds of animals: goats, donkeys, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, commercial poultry , decorative poultry , llamas, zebu . Fishing for trout and other whitefish is possible without a fishing license, as is rides on donkeys and ponies.
