Attractions

  • Local church in Castéra, dedicated to the Archangel Michael . The Romanesque architecture of the church indicates its origins in the 11th century. The single nave nave is closed with a semicircular apse . The entrance is built on the side via a porch, the floor inside is tiled with slate . Several renovations were carried out in the course of the 15th century. The entrance portal was created and the bell gable was erected. In connection with the Reformation , a wall painting was also created in the choir in order to bind the Catholic population more closely to the church. In the first half of the 18th century, Pastor Isaac de Meniote decided to do more work, this time with the creation of a painted wood vault and the construction of the chapel and sacristy . Many of the church's furnishings date from the 15th to 19th centuries and are registered as national cultural assets.
  • Local church in Loubix, dedicated to the Apostle Andrew . Built in the 11th century, it is a rare example of a Romanesque church in the region that survived the Huguenot Wars unscathed. It is built with traditional Bearn building materials , pebbles and bricks . The single-nave nave is closed with an apse, which has two wall openings with glass windows and is supported by thick buttresses . A bell gable rises above the west facade with two wall openings in which the bells are hung. In this church, too, many furnishings date from the 17th and 18th centuries and are registered as national cultural assets.
