Attractions

  • Parish church in Piets, dedicated to the Assumption . It was built in the 12th century on the site of a moth . The Romanesque arched entrance portal on the north side is similar to that of the churches in Larreule and Fichous-Riumayou . The church was extensively rebuilt in the 14th or 15th century, so that the entrance portal is the only remaining Romanesque element today. In the course of the return of the church property in the diocese of Lescar after the Huguenot Wars , a defensive wall was attached to the bell tower in 1620 . It was subsequently torn down again to make room for an entrance area. The church was restored in the 19th and 20th centuries. Inside there are many items from the 17th to 19th centuries that are registered as national cultural assets.
  • Chapel in Moustrou, dedicated to the Archangel Michael . It was built on the foundations of an earlier simple castle chapel in the 15th century. Halfway up the wall of the apse is a short liter funéraire , a ribbon of mourning. It is probably related to the tombstones of the Barons von Moustrou, which are located inside the church. The chapel was restored in the 19th century. Today's chapel has a bell gable with a small pent roof in front of the long building with a nave . In this chapel, too, many objects from the 16th to 19th centuries that are registered as national cultural assets come from.
  • Castle of Moustrou. The exact date of the establishment of the property on a leveled hilltop south of the former Motte is not known. It can only be narrowed down to a period between the Motte and the 17th century, when another building was built that was secured with moats. Building stone of limestone have been here obviously re-used for the construction of residential tract from a previous structure. Horse stables were connected to the residential wing via an enclosure wall. The current two-story building is arranged in an L-shape. In the 18th century, the east-west wing was added to the existing north-south wing. A staircase occupies the corner between the two wings and ends on a terrace that rests on four arched arcades. Below is a wine cellar and kitchen. A cowshed, poultry and pigsty were added in the 19th century.
