Attractions

  • Church in Castéra, dedicated to the Archangel Michael . From a decree from 1623 it can be deduced that at that time baptisms and funerals had to take place in the church of Monein. So it is possible that either the congregation did not have its own church or the church was in a bad state. The present day church was built in the 19th century. Your entrance at the foot of the bell tower is designed as a pointed arch , above it is a small canopy with two surfaces. The church has a painting from the 19th century that shows its patron saint Michael as the slayer of the devil in the form of the dragon . In the depiction he has set foot on the kite and is about to give it the last push with a lance .
  • Cuqueron Castle, built in the 17th century instead of a simple house. At the end of the 16th century, Jean de Montgaurin, Treasurer of Navarre and Béarn, was the landlord of the territory. The building then belonged to Charles de Colomiès, then to the Casaux family. The current complex consists of a two-story residential building, flanked by side wings. A polygonal tower stands out from the facade on the garden side. Three hatches each light up the attic. The castle is attached to a winery that produces AOC Jurançon wines .

Economy and Infrastructure

Vine of the Petit Manseng variety

The economy of the municipality is primarily determined by agriculture. The location on green hills and vineyards leads to the growing importance of "green" tourism. Cuqueron is located in the AOC zones of the Jurançon and Béarn wine-growing regions and of Ossau-Iraty , a traditionally made cheese made from sheep's milk.
