Montaut is a French commune with 1,110 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Pau and the canton of Vallées de l'Ousse et du Lagoin (until 2015: canton of Nay-Est ). The inhabitants are called Altimontains .
geography
Montaut is located about 22 kilometers southeast of Pau on the Gave de Pau river , which forms the western boundary of the municipality. Montaut is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Coarraze in the north and north-west, Saint-Vincent in the north and north-east, Lourdes in the east, Saint-Pé-de-Bigorre in the south and south-east, Lestelle-Bétharram in the west and south-west and Igon in the north-west.
