Puyoô ( okzitan. : Pujòu ) is a French municipality with 1133 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). It is located in the arrondissement of Pau and is part of the canton of Orthez et Terres des Gaves et du Sel (until 2015: canton of Orthez ). The inhabitants are called Puyolais .

geography

Puyoô is located about 45 kilometers east-northeast of Bayonne in the Béarn wine-growing region on the Gave de Pau , which borders the municipality in the south. Puyoô is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Ossages in the north and north-east, Ramous in the east and south-east, Bellocq in the south, Lahontan in the west and south-west and Habas in the north-west.

From 1973 to 1984 the communities Puyoô , Bellocq and Ramous (under the same name: Puyoô-Bellocq-Ramous ) were united .
