In the 1385 census of the Béarn, eleven households were counted in Noguères, and the village was part of the Bailliage of Camps and Pardies . In the 14th century, Mourenx and Noguères belonged to the Marquis de Gassion. As a result, the fiefs were divided, with the lay monastery of Noguères still for a long time in the possession of the Marquis de Gassion. In the course of industrialization in the industrial area of Lacq in the 20th century, the Pechiney company started an aluminum production on the territory of the municipality, which has since been closed again.

Attractions

Parish Church of Saint-Laurent
  • Parish church dedicated to Lawrence of Rome . A first church was built in Noguères in the 13th and 14th centuries. It was subordinate to a lay monastery, the building of which no longer exists today. The current church was probably rebuilt around 1712. A corresponding year and a portrait of St. Lawrence is on the small tympanum above the entrance. The bell tower threatened to collapse in the late 19th century, so it was rebuilt in 1899. A statue of the Virgin Mary rests inside the church on a console on the wall, which is carried by two little angels . The design was carried out according to the taste of the Sulpizians and corresponds to the iconography issued after the Marian apparitions in Lourdes . Maria wears a white cloak and a white dress with a blue belt. Her hands are clasped in prayer, a rosary hangs over her right forearm, and a rose lies on the foot protruding from the long dress. The devotion to the Virgin of Lourdes spread very quickly across the country after the apparitions in 1858 at the Grotto of Massabielle. On a similar base on the wall, another statue depicts St. Lawrence, who can be recognized by his attributes : the red dalmatic , the clothes of a deacon , the martyr's palm and the iron grate , symbols of his martyrdom . A small picture of St. Lawrence, however, surrounds a legend. It shows the bust of the saint who carries the martyr's palm. The parishioners used to attribute a supernatural power to the picture and touched it every time they entered the church. For this reason, the picture was restored and then hung up so high that the members of the community can no longer touch it.
  • Marchand House. A little away from the thoroughfares is the 18th century farm with its typical regional architecture. The massive appearance of the main house is enhanced by the chimney that hugs the slate- covered roof. A small extension extends the main building. A chimney protruding from its roof is a reference to a former stove. Pebbles as a traditionally used building material are evidence of a long existence. The courtyard is completed with barns and ancillary buildings, which together enclose an inner courtyard that is closed off by a wall. This farmhouse is not unique in this highly industrialized region. Other farms of this type have been converted into apartments for employees of the companies located in the valley.
