Lespourcy
Sedzère Neighboring communities
Lombia

Urost lies in the catchment area of the Adour River .

The Petit Lées , a tributary of the Lées , crosses the municipality's territory together with its tributary, the Ruisseau de Capdelaut. The Arriou Tort, a tributary of the Lées of the same name , marks the border with the neighboring municipality of Sedzère to the west.

history

The village was underdeveloped in the Middle Ages , as the count of only four houses in 1385 confirms. Urost belonged to the Bailliage of Pau. For a long period of time, the ownership of the lords of Lespourcy, Maubecq and Urost gave them the right to only one seat in the Béarn Estates .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a level of around 100 in the first half of the 19th century, which lasted until the end of the century. In the period that followed, the size of the community stagnated during brief phases of recovery until the 1970s to around 35 inhabitants. Since then there has been an upward trend that is still ongoing.

Attractions

  • Parish church dedicated to John the Baptist . It was probably built in the 12th century in the Romanesque style. Some of the original elements are still preserved, such as the rounded corners of the building and the rounded frame of the southern entrance. Its wooden door is no longer the original artifact. His fall bears the year "1737" and thus indicates the time of a restoration. The frame of the door is partially unplastered and shows the masonry of the wall. The last restoration of the parish church took place in 1871. The nave with a nave is trapezoidal and closed to the west with a bell gable. The paintings inside are the work of the painter Incams from Morlaàs . The church houses a chestnut tabernacle dating from the late 17th and the first half of the 18th century, probably made in parts by Pierre Caron of Lescar , another by Claverie and a gilded oak tabernacle in the sacristy . Many other furnishings in the church date from the 17th to 19th centuries and are registered as national cultural assets.
