history
In the beginning, Haut-de-Bosdarros belonged to the municipality of Bosdarros. The popular, unofficial name of the community is "La Chapelotte" ( German Small Chapel ) and refers to a barn that was made available by a family in the village and redesigned as a chapel in a neighborhood. In 1854 the parish became independent and the chapel was recognized as an official parish church. In 1888, Haut-de-Bosdarros split off as an independent municipality. The Gest river forms the border to this day. A folklore group from Haut-de-Bosdarros calls themselves “La Chapelotte” to remember the history of the chapel.
Population development
After a peak of 434 inhabitants at the beginning of the 20th century, the number fell by a total of around 45% to around 220 during short periods of growth by the 1970s. Since then the trend has reversed and the population has increased to over 300 again.
