Attractions

Notre-Dame Church of Anoye
  • The church is dedicated to Mary . Originally built as a chapel of the medieval castle, probably in the 12th century, the simple building still has loopholes and other wall openings that reveal its second function as a defensive structure. It is believed that the church was destroyed during the Huguenot Wars . Only the portal from the first half of the 16th century, in Gothic style, is still preserved today. The church was completely rebuilt between 1757 and 1764, with a bell gable added a century later . Inside are the tombstones of the abbots of the lay monastery . The stained glass windows were installed at the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century.
  • Old “Lacommande” farm. The house of the old farm was one of the additions to the pilgrims' hostel , which was established in 1315 by the Order of St. John for pilgrims on the Way of St. James. In 1341 she was placed under the Caubin Commandery . A chapel, a mill and a house of the tenant belonged to it in that era. Despite the fact that the medieval building has been redesigned several times over the centuries, it remains an important testimony to the former commandery.
  • Outside today's center of the village, an oval mound of earth with traces of a ditch surrounding it can be seen. At this point there was a medieval mound castle , the settlement of Anoia from the records of the 11th century. It consisted of a castle, a church and a fiefdom .
  • Château de Salettes. The Labarthe family built the castle in the 17th century at a strategic location on the Way of St. James on the edge of the town center. The family kept the castle at least until 1746, then the Nays-Candau family through marriage and finally, in the second half of the 19th century, the Salettes family , whose name the building bears today. The castle was the scene of clashes with the feudal lords of the Astis family , the founders of the lay monastery of Anoye. There is even a record of a duel between Jacques d'Astis and Jean de Labarthe, in which the latter was killed. Today's castle is well preserved. To the west of the building is a baroque garden .
  • The castle of the Astis family was already mentioned in the 1385 census. Registered as a lay monastery in 1569 and as the noble house of the Astis from 1646. In the 18th century, the building was restored, as shown by the inscription of the year 1784 together with the Astis family coat of arms on the lintel of the front door.
