history
In today's district of Sarran there was a fortification with ditches, curtain wall and inner courtyard, which points to a former settlement in the High Middle Ages at a different location than today's center. But it could also have its origin in prehistory . On the map of Cassini 1750 the complex is entered as a house.
Bétracq is first mentioned in the 14th century in the form Betrac en la frontere , meaning the border between the Béarn and the Bigorre . In the census of 1385 9 households were counted and it was noted that the village is in the Bailliage of Lembeye . The municipality is entered as Betrac on the map of Cassini 1750 . During the French Revolution in 1793, Bétracq is listed as Betracq , and eight years later, as well as Betrac , as Bétracq during the French Consulate .
In 1842 the municipality of Bétracq merged with the neighboring municipality of Montpezat to form the municipality of Monpezat-Bétracq. Since 1874 the two municipalities have been going their separate ways administratively.
Population development
After the population peaked at the beginning of the 19th century, the rural exodus began and reduced the number in waves to around 50 inhabitants today.

Attractions
- Church dedicated to Martin of Tours . The single-nave building was built in the 16th or 17th century . The bell gable is typical of such small churches in the Vic-Bilh region. The current entrance on the south side was created in 1760, the earlier entrance was probably bricked up at the same time. Inside, there are two large frescoes from the end of the 19th century depicting Saint Martin as bishop and Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes. Other furnishings in the church date from the 17th to 19th centuries and are registered as national cultural assets.
