history

A settlement existed since Gallo-Roman times . In the Middle Ages it was a pleasant stage for pilgrims on the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela . A source is mentioned that gave the pilgrims water with a regenerative effect. Because of this location and the early agriculture, numerous residents settled here since the 14th century.

Doazon was mentioned in 1286 in the writings of the Vicomté of Béarn and in 1352 in the form Doasoo by writings of the notaries of Pardies . In the census of 1385 30 households were counted and the affiliation of the village to the Bailliage of Pau was recorded. It was also found that a pastor , a landlord and excluded Cagots lived in the village. Cagots formed a group of people who were discriminated against in Spain and France from the 13th to well into the 19th century and were largely excluded from social life.

On the map of Cassini 1750 Doazon is entered as Doason .

Population development

After a peak in the number of inhabitants in the middle of the 19th century with over 400 inhabitants, the number fell by a total of more than two thirds with short growth phases up to the 1960s. Subsequently, due to the proximity to the industrial area of Lacq , population growth began.
