The airfield Cheb (German: Eger) ( ICAO : LKCB ) is a commercial airport in the Czech Republic. The oldest airfield in the Czech Republic, established in 1918, was reopened for domestic flights in 2010.

history

The first Eger / Cheb airfield was created in 1916–1917 by the city of Eger on the basis of an agreement with the Austro-Hungarian army. The architect and builder Pascher was entrusted with the planning and implementation according to the decision of the Eger city council. From July 1, 1917, the "Fliegeretappenkompanie Nr. 16" (Flek 16) of the Austro-Hungarian aviation troops was stationed here. On October 1, 1938, the day after the Munich Agreement was signed , Eger was occupied by German troops. During the Second World War, the Eger Flugzeugwerke GmbH was established in the immediate vicinity of the airfield , a large-scale operation in which parts of the Heinkel He 111 , He 177 , He 219 and Messerschmitt Me 262 were manufactured and repaired for the Air Force . Towards the end of the war, the airfield and the aircraft factory were destroyed by American bombing and finally occupied by US soldiers.

equipment

The airfield has a 1000 meter long and 25 meter wide grass runway in the 05/23 orientation. This is located south-east parallel to the disused 1400 meter long concrete runway. There is a rotating radio beacon with distance measuring equipment ( VOR / DME , identifier "OKG") on the square . The airfield was opened on August 19, 2010 as an airfield for VFR domestic air traffic. The concrete track is being repaired.
