Valentin Kopp (born August 19, 1997 in Landshut ) is a German ice hockey player who has been under contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg from the EBEL since May 2017 .

Career

Kopp began his career in the junior team at EV Landshut , where he ran through all junior teams until the 2012/13 season. With the boys 'team of the “Young Cannibals”, he won the DEL boys' tournament in Schwenningen, recognized as the unofficial German championship, twice in 2010 and 2011.

In December 2012, he moved to the youth performance center of Jungadler Mannheim and immediately celebrated the runner-up in the school league. In the 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons he celebrated three German championships in a row in the German Junior League with the young eagles Mannheim . In the 2015/16 season, Kopp was the top scorer in the league with the most goals and the most assists. He was also voted the second best player of the season by the league's coaches.

After his success in Mannheim, he was invited by the Aberdeen Wings from the North American NAHL to take part in a trial training. After his tryout, however, the entire team of coaches was replaced there, who then had no interest in young German players. So his way led back to Germany very quickly via the Northeast Generals.

He played his first professional games with his youth club EV Landshut in the Oberliga Süd . Very quickly after leaving the playoffs, he decided to move to EC Red Bull Salzburg . With the Red Bull Juniors he will play in the cross-border Sky Alps Hockey League (AHL) .

International

Kopp was nominated for the first time in 2013 for the German U17 national team, with which he took part in the World U17 Hockey Challenge in Sydney in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia in January 2014 . In 2015 he took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in Zug / Lucerne . There he had to go to Division I with the German team after the defeat in the relegation against Belarus.

In 2016 he was named to the squad of the U19 national team for the 5-nation tournament in Deggendorf by the new federal junior coach Christian Künast . He injured himself in the national team's first training session and was subsequently unable to play a game in this tournament.

Although Kopp did not find his way around the EV Landshut game system in the Oberliga Süd and was often unsuccessful, he really flourished in the preparatory games of the U20 national team for the Junior World Championship of Division I and impressed with 4 goals and 3 assists in 5 international comparisons DEB coaching staff. At the world championship itself in Bremerhaven , the promotion was just missed. Kopp recorded a goal and an assist in this tournament. In addition, he made the final decision in favor of the German team in the shootout against Belarus with his converted penalty.
