history

The parish of Bournos was given to the Bishop of Lescar at the end of the 11th century . As a result, the community was dependent on a manor belonging to the Baronate of Doumy , vassal of the Viscount of Béarn.

In the Béarn census of 1385, 3 households were counted in Bornos and it was noted that the municipality is in the Bailliage of Pau. Paul Raymond, archivist and historian of the 19th century, made a further mention in connection with the local church Sent Julhia de Borhos by notaries of Larreule in 1481.

In 1880 there was a brick factory in Bournos, an economic activity beyond agriculture, which otherwise benefits from the fertile soil.

Population development

After a temporary peak in the number of inhabitants in the middle of the 19th century with over 400 inhabitants, the number fell in waves by around 60% by the 1970s. It has increased again since then and has more than doubled since then.
