Garlin is a French commune of the department Pyrénées-Atlantiques with 1,387 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It is assigned to the canton of Terres des Luys et Coteaux du Vic-Bilh (until 2015: canton of Garlin ) and the arrondissement of Pau . The inhabitants are called Garlinois .
geography
Garlin lies at the foot of the Pyrenees , 30 kilometers north-northeast of Pau im Béarn . Garlin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Sarron in the north, Moncla in the east and northeast, Castetpugon in the east, Baliracq-Maumusson in the east and southeast, Taron-Sadirac- Vielleave in the southeast, Ribarrouy in the south, Boueilh-Boueilho-Lasque in the west and southwest, Lauret in the west and Miramont-Sensacq in the northwest.
The A65 autoroute runs through the municipality .
history
The village was founded as a bastide around 1302. During the 16th century, with Garlin as its center, the area developed into a stronghold of the Protestant faith.
