history

An old way of traveling pasture farming crossed the community early. In Gallo-Roman times it was expanded to become the Roman road via Sarazena , which led from Sauveterre-de-Béarn to Orthez. In the Middle Ages , pilgrims on the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela used this road. In the census of the Béarn in 1385 39 households were counted in Lanneplaà and the affiliation of the village to the Bailliage of the archdeaconate Larbaig of the diocese of Lescar was recorded. At that time there was probably a castle and seat of the lay monastery, vassal of the Viscount of Béarn.

  • Parish church, dedicated to James the Elder . As part of a large-scale measure by the Catholic Church in the 19th century to restore churches that were too small or poorly maintained in view of the growing population, the bell tower and the single-nave nave were built from 1865 to 1866 according to plans by Henri d'Arnaudat, architect of the town of Orthez , built. The bell tower is covered with the slate typical of the Béarn and equipped with a square helmet . In 1887 the work was completed by wall paintings and decorative gold plating by the Bayonn painter Louis Decrept.
