Salles-Mongiscard is a French municipality with 308 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Pau and the canton of Orthez et Terres des Gaves et du Sel (until 2015: canton of Orthez ).

The name in the Gascognischen language is Salas-Monguiscart .

The first part of the name of the community comes from the Germanic word for "hall" and indicates a castle. The second part is a combination of the Latin montem ( German  mountain ) and the Germanic name "Wisishart". The residents are called Sallois and Salloises .

history

The discovery of a hatchet made of cut stone from the Copper Age shows an early settlement of the area. By conquest by Gaston IV. Of Béarn , the area came to the Béarn and the village could develop.
