history

The village of Momy was first mentioned in the scriptures in the 10th century. It was a so-called castelnau , as evidenced by the traces of earlier gates and walls. A Castelnau ( German  Neuburg , Occitan castèl nòu , in Vulgar Latin castellum novum ) is a village or town that was founded near a mound castle . Later, due to its wealth and size, Momy enjoyed the privilege of belonging to the Vicomté court along with 23 other villages . The village, castle and church formed a fortified complex in the 13th century. The census in 1385 48 households were counted in Momy and the membership of the Bailliage of Lembeye noted. The geographical location on one of the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela , possibly the former Romiu Way , made the village even more important. Momy was a member of the Commandery of the Order of Malta of Caubin and Morlaàs .
