Labeyrie is located about 45 km northwest of Pau in the historic province of Béarn on the northern border with the neighboring Landes department .
The place is surrounded by the neighboring communities:
Sault-de-Navailles | Bassercles (Landes) | |
Castelner (Landes) | ||
Lacadée | Hag deafess | Saint-Médard |
Labeyrie is located in the river Adour catchment area . A tributary of the Luy , the Luy de Béarn , and its tributary Juren flow through the area of the municipality.
history
Since the Middle Ages , the economic life of the community has been shaped by the products of numerous farms. In addition, there was the production of glass, which gave the community its name. Beyrie is a derivative of the Latin word vitrina . After the disappearance of the glass workshops at the end of the Middle Ages, people turned to the cultivation of the numerous surrounding forests. It was mentioned in the scriptures in 1538 in the form of La Beyria . Labeyrie was a subsidiary of Lacadée and belonged to the subdistrict of Saint-Sever in the Landes. Until the reorganization of the territories at the beginning of the French Revolution , Labeyrie belonged to the Chalosse, an area of the Landes. On the map of Cassini 1750, the municipality is shown under the name Beyrie . With the establishment of the Basses-Pyrénées department in 1790, the municipality was added to the Béarn.
Population development
After a peak in the number of around 250 inhabitants in the first half of the 19th century, the number fell to below 100 with short growth phases by the 1960s. Only in the last few years has the community seen moderate growth, the number of inhabitants has now risen to over 100 again.

Attractions
- Parish Church of Labeyrie. It is built in the style of a classical Romanesque church in the 12th century. Over the centuries it has undergone several changes, so that only a few sculptures , including a sword and spurs of knights , have survived from its origins . Like most churches in the area, the parish church of Labeyrie has a bell gable with two wall openings for the bells.
- Labeyrie Castle. In the area of the municipality there are the remains of a castle, the building materials of which were presumably reused in the building of houses. A well-preserved chapel , in which the landlords are buried, stands on the castle grounds . One of these graves in the chapel shows a reclining figure of an unknown knight who was probably buried in the choir in the 18th century . His sword, meanwhile, hangs over the town hall's chimney.
Economy and Infrastructure
Agriculture and forestry are the main economic drivers of the municipality.
