Nilay Patel

Nilay Patel is an American lawyer and journalist . He is the editor-in-chief of the technology portal The Verge .

Career

In 2003 Patel finished his studies in political science at the University of Chicago , which he expanded with a law degree and graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School .

From 2007 to 2011 Patel worked for the technology blog Engadget .

In 2011 Nilay Patel founded The Verge together with Joshua Topolsky , Joanna Stern and Dieter Bohn . In 2014 he moved from The Verge to sister site Vox , where he became Managing Editor ; previously there should have been tensions between Patel and Topolsky. However, when Topolsky left The Verge in August 2014 , Patel returned to The Verge as the new editor-in-chief . During his time as editor-in-chief, Walter Mossberg , one of the most influential journalists in the technology industry, was won over as editor. Together with Mossberg, Patel published the weekly podcast Ctrl-Walt-Delete from September 2015 until Mossberg's retirement in June 2017 .
