He is a successful participant in the Fulbright Alumni Scholarship Program. De Esteban's artistic works are divided into two clearly separated series: Elegies of Manumission ( elegies of release) and Propositions (theses, approaches).

Works

"Elegies of Manumission"

The elegies, which were created in three parts between 2010 and 2011, raise social and political questions through symbolic portraits. The high level of craftsmanship and extraordinary design result in stories beyond history and push the boundaries of contemporary portrait photography.

"Propositons"

Propositions, started in 2011, uses photography and video to deal with contemporary art and political issues. In Proposition One is about mechanical devices that, although fully functional now (film projector, cassette tape, etc.) are considered obsolete. The technology presents the superimposition of several images of the inner workings of the devices like translucent X-ray images. Proposition Two shows details of a skull and insights into lecture halls and laboratories. In Proposition Three de Esteban examines the cold, gray inner workings of cell phones and tablets, as well as the increasing intermingling of the body and digital technologies .

In Heads Will Roll, part four of the series, Esteban uses photo collages that consist of still shots of film scenes, photos of flowers, and text fragments.

Heads will Roll was named Photo Book of the Year by LensCulture magazine . The accompanying New York exhibition was featured on the cover of the September – October 2015 issue of Photograph Magazine (Volume 13, Number 1). ArtSlant described the exhibition as a “must see exhibition” in North America .
