Photo Festival Łódź 2008

The Międzynarodowy Festiwal Fotografii Fotofestiwal ( International Photography Festival Fotofestiwal ) in Łódź has been the largest photography festival in Poland for some time and one of the most important events of its kind in Europe. It is a member of two international photo festival associations: Photo Festival Union and Festival of Light . This is also the reason why many international curators take part in the preparation of the program. Every year they come to Łódź with lectures and workshops and thus attract many students and interested people.

The first photo festival in 2002 was just a relatively modest event. It was organized by 4 students from the Institute of Sociology of the University of Łódź who created the Foundation of Visual Education. With a low budget, the festival program could only be filled for 2 days. In the small rooms of the “Cytryna” cinema, three exhibitions and a film series with photography as the leitmotif were shown to the public.

In the next few years the festival developed gradually and in 2004 the whole city was hit with the photo fever. A year later, with the opening of the 4th Photo Festival, the new Łódź Art Center was opened to the public.
