Irja von Bernstorff (born Irja Martens , * 1983 in Munich ) is a German director, writer and producer of documentary films.

life and work

After studying theater and media studies in Bayreuth and Paris, she worked for fechnerMEDIA from 2006 to 2016. In addition to various documentary film projects for German television and international co-productions etc. a. for NHK in Japan, in 2013 she directed the ARTE theme evening Future Finds City (production: fechnerMEDIA, editors: Natalie Weber and Wolfgang Wirtz-Nentwig SR / ARD) . This included a 45-minute report "City of the Future - Future of the City" about the future development of cities and a 52-minute documentary film "How is the city full?" about the food markets of the future, awarded the German Environment and Sustainability Prize 2014. The accompanying interactive online portal on ARTE Future entitled Urban Gardening - Green Your City was awarded the German Business Film Prize 2014. She has been working and living together since 2013 her husband and daughter in Bhutan, where von Bernstorff realized a 25-part fictional TV series about the threat of rural exodus in Bhutan for the only Bhutanese television broadcaster BBS. Her first multi-award-winning documentary film "The Farmer and I" emerged from the shooting.
