Reiz (Reis) Malile (born August 12, 1924 in Gjirokastra ; † March 6, 2003 in Tirana ) was a diplomat and politician of the Party of Labor of Albania PPSh ( Partia e Punës e Shqipërisë ) in the People's Socialist Republic of Albania , who among other things between 1982 and 1991 was Albania's foreign minister .

biography

Malile attended the elementary school in Vlora and the French-speaking Lyceum in Korça . After the Italian occupation of Albania , he became involved in the anti-fascist resistance movement during the Second World War and was injured and imprisoned during the demonstration in Korça in November 1942. After his release from prison a few months later he returned to Vlora, where he joined the anti-fascist partisan groups. During the war he rose to become a political officer in the V Brigade (Brigada e V-të Sulmuese) and after the liberation of Albania he took part in armed fighting in Kosovo and around Višegrad in Yugoslavia .

After the founding of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania on May 24, 1944, Malile completed a history degree and joined the Foreign Ministry in January 1949. In 1956 he became permanent representative to the United Nations in New York City and remained there until 1961. He then replaced Spiro Rusha as ambassador to the People's Republic of China in 1961 and held this position until he was replaced by Vasil Nathanaili in 1963. He then served as Deputy Foreign Minister between 1963 and 1982.

On June 30, 1982, Malile succeeded Nesti Nase as Foreign Minister of Albania (Ministër i Punėve tė Jashtme) and held this post until February 21, 1991, the end of the communist regime in Albania. He was succeeded by Muhamet Kapllani , who was replaced by Ilir Boçka on December 18, 1991 . In the election of November 14, 1982, he was also elected a member of the People's Assembly ( Kuvendi Popullor ) and belonged to it as a representative of the Party of Labor of Albania PPSh ( Partia e Punës e Shqipërisë ) in the tenth and eleventh legislative periods on November 13, 1990 .
