Israeli runner-up in 2003;
Quarter-finals EuroChallenge 2004, 2005

Ironi Naharija is a professional Israeli basketball team from Nahariya . After playing first class as Hapoel Ironi for two seasons in the early 1990s , the team had their most successful decade after being promoted to the second division in 2000 until they were relegated from the first to the second division in 2010. As the Israeli runner-up in 2003, they reached the quarter-finals in the FIBA Europe League in 2004 and were able to repeat this success the following year, when they again reached the round of the best eight teams in this European club competition. After financial difficulties at the end of the decade, the city of Nahariya itself recently acted as sponsor and financier of the team.

history

After the founding in 1970 they reached the highest Israeli league Ligat ha'Al for the first time in the 1991/92 season , which they had to leave again after two seasons and after another two seasons was passed through to the third division. In 2000, he was promoted to the second highest division Liga Leumit and after another two years they achieved renewed promotion to the Ligat ha'Al, in which they immediately reached the play-off finals for the championship as Strauss Iscar . Here you had no chance against series champion Maccabi Tel Aviv . Behind the top European team Maccabi Tel Aviv they were the second best Israeli basketball team at that time and took part in a European club competition for the first time in the following season. In the third European club competition FIBA Europe League 2003/04 you reached the quarter-finals, in which you were eliminated against Ural Great Perm . The national competitor Hapoel Tel Aviv reached third place in this competition after a semi-final defeat. Thus, the total Israeli triumph was prevented in European competitions as in the ULEB Competitions Euro League Maccabi Tel Aviv and ULEB Cup Hapoel Jerusalem won. While you could not repeat the coup of 2003 with the final in the national championship and this time came third, in the following FIBA Europe League 2004/05 you again reached the round of the best eight teams, in which you played the third and decisive play despite home advantage -off game against eventual finalists BK Kiev lost. In the following two editions of this competition, which traded as FIBA EuroCup and later called EuroChallenge , they were eliminated in the first group phase. In the national championship 2006 and 2008 each achieved fourth place. In the 2009/10 season they lost the relegation round to avoid relegation against Hapoel Holon and rose from the top division again. This led to serious liquidity problems for the team and the entry of the city of Nahariya as a financier. With a significantly reduced budget, the league could barely be achieved in the League Leumit in the following two seasons with many young local players. In the 2012/13 season they belonged again to the top teams in the second division.
