Jerome McKinley "Gerald" Henderson Jr. (born December 9, 1987 in Caldwell , New Jersey ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 2009 to 2017 .

He is the son of former NBA player Gerald Henderson Sr.

Career

Henderson was selected twelfth in the 2009 NBA draft by the Charlotte Bobcats (later Charlotte Hornets ). In his second professional year he established himself as a starter and played his best year in his third season ( 2012/13 ) with 15.5 points per game. In 2014 he reached the NBA playoffs with the Bobcats for the first time in their club's history .

On June 25, 2015, he and Noah Vonleh were transferred to the Portland Trail Blazers for Nicolas Batum . In the Blazers Henderson came as a substitute from the bench and scored 8.7 points on average per game.

In the summer of 2016, the Shooting Guard moved to the Philadelphia 76ers as a player without a contract . In April 2019, two years after his last NBA game, Henderson announced his retirement from an active player due to his injury history.

During the 2018-19 season , Henderson was a commentator for Fox Sports Southeast.
