Christoph Ludwig Rudolph von Reitzenstein

Christoph Ludwig Rudolph von Reitzenstein (born February 26, 1736 in Burg bei Greiz ; † March 27, 1796 in Ansbach ) was head of the Jägerkorps Ansbach-Bayreuth in North America, Prussian major general and head of infantry regiment No. 56 .

Life

Von Reitzenstein was the son of Baron Christoph Heinrich Erdmann von Reitzenstein (April 2, 1702 - May 27, 1778) from the Schwarzenstein lower part and his wife Sophie Elisabeth von Komerstadt (April 8, 1708 - February 2, 1789 ). His brothers were also in the military: Karl August was in imperial service, while Heinrich August also served with the Prussians.

He began his career in 1752 as a Page in the court of the Margrave of Ansbach , then entered Ansbach'sche military services. There reached the rank of captain in 1770 . In 1771 he fought against the Turks in the Corps Romanzow . Back at home he was promoted to major on January 29, 1777 . When Margrave Karl Alexander von Ansbach-Bayreuth and other German princes presented troops to the King of England in the North American War of Independence in 1777 , Major von Reitzenstein was initially involved in the Voith regiment. During his six-year stay in North America, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and chief in the newly established Jäger battalion on March 7, 1781 , which was enlarged to a regiment on March 18, 1782. In the same year he was promoted to colonel .

The Ansbach auxiliaries initially stood with Lieutenant General Lord Clinton , fought on Long Island and helped to force access to Delaware . In the Battle of Yorktown in 1781 the Reitzenstein Regiment was enclosed with the British troops under Lieutenant General Lord Cornwallis . After his surrender, the troops were interned in Virginia . On December 9, 1783, he returned to Ansbach from North America. There he was awarded the Order de la sincérité in 1785 and remained in the service in Ansbach for nine more years. In 1787 he received the Seybothen Regiment. He then went into the service of the States General , but took the oath on February 6, 1792 in Nijmegen on the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm II. On March 3, 1793, he promoted him to major general and chief of a fusilier regiment ; in 1794 he became chief of the newly established Infantry Regiment No. 56 . Two years later he died in Ansbach.

He was married to Baroness Karoline Luise Ernestine Schenk von Geyern (born November 13, 1764, † January 30, 1820). The marriage remained without children.
