Jonny William Flynn (born February 6, 1989 in Niagara Falls , New York ) is an American basketball player.

NBA

After two years at Syracuse University , Flynn moved to the NBA. He was selected 6th by the Minnesota Timberwolves . In his rookie season, Flynn started 81 games on the grid and achieved respectable values with 13.5 points and 4.4 assists per game. In recognition of this, he was named to the second NBA All-Rookie Team .

The 2010/11 season was less promising. Flynn's operating time was reduced and his stats fell across the board.

During the 2011 NBA draft , Flynn was transferred to the Houston Rockets with Lithuanian rookie Donatas Motiejūnas in exchange for Brad Miller . On March 15, 2012 Flynn was transferred to the Portland Trail Blazers along with Hasheem Thabeet and a second-round draft pick in exchange for Marcus Camby . In Portland, he did not manage to establish himself in the fixed rotation and received no new contract for the 2012/13 season . Flynn then moved within the league to the Detroit Pistons , but was released before the start of the season.

Flynn then moved to Australia and signed a contract with the Melbourne Tigers from the National Basketball League (NBL) until the end of the season.

In the summer of 2013 Flynn tried again to gain a foothold in the NBA and was in the preparations for the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers , but did not make the jump into the final roster. In the fall of 2013, he then signed a contract with Sichuan Blue Whales in the Chinese basketball league. However, he did not play a game and was released after a month. In August 2014 he signed with Orlandina Basket in Italy . After two games, he was released due to an injury.
