Austin Darren Daye (born June 5, 1988 in Irvine , California ) is an American basketball player . He last played in the NBA (2015) for the Atlanta Hawks . This was followed by stations in Italy, Turkey, Israel and again Italy.

Life

Youth and college

Austin Daye was born in 1988 to former NBA pro Darren Daye . He attended Woodbridge High School in his hometown of Irvine . There he played for the school's basketball team and scored 30.9 points per game for them in his senior season. After graduating from high school, he attended Gonzaga University , where he was also a member of the basketball team. Daye made a fantastic debut wearing the Bulldogs' dress , scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds against the Montana Grizzlies . In addition, he hit 29 free throws in a row during the season and came to a total of 54 blocks . In the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship tournament he was eliminated with the Bulldogs in the first round against the Davidson Wildcats . The following season was also his last for the Bulldogs and this ended in the NCAA tournament in the third round, in which the Bulldogs lost to the North Carolina Tar Heels .

NBA career

Detroit Pistons (2009-2013)

Daye was drafted in the 2009 NBA draft in 15th place by the Detroit Pistons and signed on August 7, 2009 his contract with the Pistons. In his first season with the Pistons, he played 69 games and started four times. Overall, he achieved an average of 5.1 points per game. But as in the next two seasons, he did not get beyond the role of a reservist and in the meantime moved to Russia due to the lockout during the 2011/12 season . There he played for the BK Chimki and returned after the expiry of his two-month contract back to the Pistons, as he could not establish himself as a regular in Chimki .

Further positions in the NBA (2013-2015)

On January 30, 2013 Daye was transferred to the Memphis Grizzlies together with teammate Tayshaun Prince . With the Grizzlies, Daye came off the bench as a supplementary player. For the 2013/14 season , however, he received no further contract in Memphis. In late July 2013, the Toronto Raptors announced the signing of Austin Daye. He received a contract with the Canadian team until summer 2015. On February 20, 2014 Daye was transferred to the San Antonio Spurs for Nando de Colo . After a year, he was released from the Spurs in mid-January 2015. In March 2015 he was signed as a replacement for the injured Mike Scott until the end of the season, but without staying in the team beyond the summer.

Moving abroad (since 2015)

Day moved to Italy for Victoria Libertas Pesaro in the 2015/16 season . In Serie A he was the top scorer in the main round, which was still not enough for Pesaro to qualify for the play-offs . In the summer of 2016 Daye signed a contract with Galatasaray Istanbul . In summer 2017 he moved to Hapoel Jerusalem and in January 2018 to Reyer Venezia Mestre .
