James Patrick Johnson (born February 20, 1987 in Cheyenne , Wyoming ) is an American basketball player who has been active in the NBA since 2009. At a height of 2.01 meters, it is used in both forward positions.

Career

High school and college

Johnson played for Cheyenne East High School in high school before moving to Wake Forest University . Even as a freshman , he led his team on both points and rebounds, which he succeeded in rebounds as well as a sophomore . In his last college season he achieved an average of 15.0 points and 8.5 rebounds. After the season, Johnson announced his participation in the 2009 NBA Draft.

NBA

Johnson was selected 16th by the Chicago Bulls in the 2009 NBA Draft . He played for the Bulls for two years before being transferred to the Toronto Raptors for a draft pick in February 2011 . In the Raptors Johnson developed into a key player and put in the 2011/12 season 9.1 points, 4.7  rebounds , 2.0  assists , as well as 1.2  steals and 1.4  blocks per game.

In the summer of 2012 he was transferred to the Sacramento Kings . However, he could not prevail in Sacramento, so that he was without a contract in the summer of 2013 .

After he did not receive a contract for the 2013/14 season , he switched to the development league (then NBA- D-League ) with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers .

In December 2013 Johnson was able to get a contract with the Memphis Grizzlies .

For the 2014/15 season he returned to the Toronto Raptors. He spent two seasons in Toronto before signing a contract with the Miami Heat on July 10, 2016 . He celebrated his best season there and achieved very good values ​​for a banker with 12.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.

Johnson has a black belt in karate and was kickboxing world champion at the age of 17 and 18 . Johnson's father Willie was also world champion in kickboxing and also teaches numerous martial arts in his hometown.
