Omari Spellman (born July 21, 1997 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA .

career

Born in Cleveland, Ohio , Spellmann played at the MacDuffie School in Granby , Massachusetts, and from 2015 at the St. Thomas More School in Oakdale , Connecticut. From the 2016/17 season he was part of the Villanova University squad , but in his freshman year he did not take part in games, but only in practice. In the 2017/18 season, he won the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship championship tournament with Villanova . In the championship year Spellman was on the grid in 39 of 40 games and scored an average of 10.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per encounter. In spring 2018, he announced his intention to participate in the NBA draft process , and in June 2018 he was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in 30th place, i.e. the last player in the first round . In 46 games of the 2018/19 season, he came to an average of 5.9 points for Atlanta.

In July 2019 he was signed by the Golden State Warriors . For the Californians, he was in the starting line-up three times in 49 missions during the 2019/20 season and averaged 7.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per match before he was swapped to the Minnesota Timberwolves in February 2020 .
