Joseph Galea-Curmi (born January 1, 1964 in Balzan , Malta ) is a Maltese clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Malta .

Life

Joseph Galea-Curmi entered the seminary after graduating from high school and studied at the University of Malta , where he obtained a licentiate in Catholic theology . On July 5, 1991, he received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Malta .

After his ordination he was responsible for the pastoral care of workers in the archdiocese. From 1993 to 1998 he studied at the Lateran University in Rome, where he was awarded a Dr. theol. received his doctorate . From 1998 to 2014 he held positions of responsibility for pastoral care in the archdiocese. From 1999 to 2003 he was coordinator of the diocesan synod of the archdiocese. Since 1999 he has also been active in the pastoral care of his home town and as a lecturer in pastoral theology at the theological faculty of the University of Malta. In 2015 he was appointed Cathedral Capitular and Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Malta.

On 23 June 2018 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Cebarades and auxiliary bishop in Malta. The Archbishop of Malta, Charles Scicluna , ordained him episcopal on August 4th of the same year . Co- consecrators were his predecessor Paul Cremona OP and the Bishop of Gozo , Mario Grech .
