Jrue Randall Holiday (born June 12, 1990 in Chatsworth , California ) is an American basketball player . He was selected 17th in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and has since played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the position of Point Guard or Shooting Guards . He has been under contract with the New Orleans Pelicans since the 2013/14 season .
Before he was drafted, Holiday played for the UCLA Bruins in the NCAA college league .
Career
High school
Holiday played for Campbell Hall High School and was named Gatorade Player of the Year in his senior season . In his senior year he averaged 25.9 points, 11.2 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 4.8 steals per game and led his team to a season record of 31-5 games and the California Division IV State Title . Holiday was called up to the McDonald's All-American Team, where he scored 14 points, 5 rebounds , 5 steals and 3 assists for the West team. He is the only California basketball player to win three state championships.
college
In July 2007, Holiday announced that he would be playing for the University of California, Los Angeles . He decided against the University of Washington , for which his older brother Justin played.
NBA
Holiday was at 17 out of the Philadelphia 76ers drafted . After Holiday only came off the bench at the 76ers and had only a few minutes behind players like Andre Miller or Lou Williams , he was able to earn his place in the starting five of the 76ers in the course of the 2011/2012 season .
For the 2012/13 season , Holiday was finally one of the team's main performers and was nominated for the first time for the NBA All-Star Game due to his good performance . There he came off the bench and scored 6 points, 2 rebounds and an assist in 15 minutes of play. He finished the season with 17.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game. All values were career bests for Holiday.
During the 2013 NBA draft , he was transferred from Philadelphia to New Orleans for the rights to rookie Nerlens Noel (6th pick of the 2013 draft) and a first-round draft pick in 2014 (which later became Elfrid Payton ). In New Orleans, however, Holiday struggled with injuries and completed 34 in the first year with the Pelicans, in the second year 40 of a possible 82 games. He was elected to the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2018 .
National team
Holiday played for the USA Basketball Men's Youth Development Festival Blue Team . He averaged 18.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.
Personal
Holiday married former national soccer player Lauren Cheney on July 7, 2013 . Holiday has two brothers who also play in the NBA. His older brother Justin Holiday played for the Washington Huskies and the Chicago Bulls . He is currently under contract with the Indiana Pacers . In 2015 he won the NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors . In the 2018 NBA draft , his younger brother Aaron was selected by the Indiana Pacers, making Justin and Aaron teammates.
