Brandon Xavier Ingram (born September 2, 1997 in Kinston , North Carolina ) is an American basketball player who currently plays for the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA . In 2020, Ingram was named Most Improved Player of the Season.
Career
Ingram grew up in Kinston and played basketball in the local high school. In eighth grade he was discovered by ex-NBA pro Jerry Stackhouse , also from Kinston, who has promoted him ever since. As one of the country's greatest talents, Ingram moved to the renowned Duke University after high school , where he played for a year under coach Mike Krzyzewski . He scored 17.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 35 college games and was named ACC Rookie of the Year .
Los Angeles Lakers (from 2016-2019)
Ingram and Ben Simmons were considered the most promising favorites for the first pick in the NBA draft . After Simmons went first to the Philadelphia 76ers , Ingram was selected second by the Los Angeles Lakers . Ingram was after the season 2016/17 to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team appointed. On January 29, 2019, he scored 36 points against the Philadelphia 76ers, his career record to date. In March 2019, Ingram was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right arm, which meant he was out for the rest of the season. By then, Ingram had good statistics in the 2018/19 season with 18.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 52 games this season.
New Orleans Pelicans (Since 2019)
In the summer of 2019 he was transferred to the New Orleans Pelicans together with Lonzo Ball , Josh Hart , the draft rights to DeAndre Hunter and future draft picks in exchange for superstar Anthony Davis . Ingram got off to a good start to the season right away, setting a career record of 40 points against the Brooklyn Nets on November 4, 2019 . He improved this value on January 16 when he scored 49 points against the Utah Jazz . Ingram's breakthrough came with the Pelicans. He scored 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game in 62 games of the season, up to then career best. With the Pelicans, he narrowly failed in the playoff qualification. At the end of the season, Ingram was awarded the NBA Most Improved Player Award .
