Jahlil Okafor (born December 15, 1995 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA . He plays on the position of the center .

Life

college

Okafor attended Duke University to play under Coach K for the Blue Devils . He got an average of 17.3 points and 8.5 rebounds with 1.4 blocks. In the NCAA tournament, he led the Blue Devils to the final. There Duke defeated the Wisconsin Badgers and won the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship . After its freshman season, the center signed up for the NBA draft .

NBA

In the 2015 NBA Draft, Okafor was selected 3rd by the Philadelphia 76ers. Okafor played in 53 games and scored 17.5 points and 7.0 rebounds on average. At the end of the season he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team . In his second NBA year, however, the game shares for Okafor fell and he only achieved 11.8 points and 4.8 rebounds on average. In December 2017, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets after he no longer got the desired game shares in Philadelphia.

After his contract with the Nets expired, Okafor received no new offer from the Brooklyn franchise and joined the New Orleans Pelicans with a partially guaranteed two-year contract .
