The Queen Maud Bay is a 4km wide bay on the south coast of South Georgia . It is located on the north side of the Núñez Peninsula .
It was first mapped in 1819 during the first Russian Antarctic expedition (1819–1821) under the direction of Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen . Before 1922, the bay was probably named by whalers after the Norwegian Queen Maud (1869–1938). Nearby is King Haakon Bay, named after her husband .
