The Hammerstad Reef is a reef off the southern coast of South Georgia . It is 2.5 km south of Cape Rosa in the northern part of the entrance to Queen Maud Bay .
The South Georgia Survey mapped the reef as part of its 1951-1957 survey campaign. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1958 after the Norwegian seal hunter Thorleif Hammerstad (1915-2005), who from 1946 worked for the Compañía Argentina de Pesca in Grytviken for several years .
